ABOUT THE AMGA

The AMGA was established in March 1961 with 18 growers attending the first meeting held at Parramatta. The meeting decided that a "body be formed along the lines of the overseas MGA's for the general food of the industry and that it be called the Australian Mushroom Growers' Association". Today, the AMGA remains committed to growers and the mushroom industry; its mission statement is:

"Australian mushroom growers are responsible primary producers, dedicated to providing wholesome food for the community. AMGA exists to provide effective leadership to a united industry and to foster an environment in which the fungi industry can grow and prosper."

It is managed by a Board of directors, elected by members of the AMGA. The Board elects a Chairman, two Vice-Chairman and a Treasurer. The AMGA maintains a secretariat headed by a General Manager, a positition first created in 1973, to service members and the industry.
